YOUTH PROGRAMS
Juvenile First Offenders Program: Following an individual assessment, group educational classes are offered for families whose children have been referred by the police department for minor offenses. Topics covered include conflict resolution, anger, decision-making, and communication.
Truancy Intervention Program: In 2006 NYFC launched TIP, the Truancy Intervention Program in effort to alleviate the growing truancy problem in Richardson schools. Adolescents are referred to the program by the court, and parents attend a one-day course with their adolescents.
Alcohol Awareness Program for Minors:
In this program NYFC's certified instructors teach the state approved Alcohol Awareness Program for those who are court referred.
Tobacco Awareness Program for Minors:
The Tobacco Awareness Course provides information about tobacco use and offers the guidance and support to quit smoking.
Community Service and Restitution:
Through Community Service, youth "pay back" the community and learn the value of helping others. The Restitution Program involves mediation between the offender and the victim to resolve financial and emotional losses as a result of the offense.
Assessments:
On a limited basis, NYFC counselors can provide drug testing and drug assessments for adolescents, as well as assessments for First Offender Program for juveniles and their families
